Everything Old is New Again!

What is a webring?

A web-ring is a less labor some alternative to sites exchanging text, banner links, and directory links. It is a means of getting more links to your site, to help improve your site ranking in search engines. It also serves as a free advertising means of getting more visitors to your site. In short, it has been said, "The more links, the more hits to your site, the more hit the more visitors, and the higher your site's ranking is in search engines" ... which is what you want to happen, just so that your labor has not been in vain and your site is not the 209,537th listing of like topic sites in search engine directories; because then, almost no one will know your site even exists.

How does a webring work?

When you (website owner) join a web-ring, you are given a HTML code or java script (sometimes called a navbar, navpanel, or SSNB code) to put on your site. And once you do that and your webring membership is then approved, every active member of that ring (and every member that joins, down the road) automatically has a link (from their site) to yours. Also, this same code provides a link, from your site, to every other member's website.

Who benefits?

When people visit any ring member's website, they will see the webring navbar, which (when using java script) often looks like a banner. And once they click on it, the 'link of choice' will either take them to a list of all that ring's member's sites or it will begin taking them directly to the other ring member's websites.

How a webring works

And, if the visitor keeps clicking 'next, on each of these ring member's sites' webring navbar, they will eventually return to your website again. And in doing such, they will have experienced the effect of a ring of links or circle of links; which is especially nice for web surfers, too. And otherwise, still, they will have had opportunity to find multiple sites of like and similar topic matter, in one place; serving like a mini directory.
